Chapter 2

The hero is set to serve as a bodyguard and escort for an important group of clergymen as they travel to a distant town in Southern Kelerak. One of the clerics is less than impressed with the over-the-hill mercenary, and he expresses the belief that he will run at the first sign of trouble. The hero bites back angry words because he needs the work. Two days go by and the outspoken cleric has not warmed up to the hero at all. It's a long and tense walk. The hero drives off a few wolves that try to menace the group while traveling through a forest, but they are not much of a danger, and this does not impress the outspoken priest. The hero reminds himself that once at the next town he can find work elsewhere and for that, maybe a few coin for some drink and possibly a wench. Several other instances involving wolf attacks occur during the day. Suddenly, however, there is trouble: the group of clergy is attacked by soldiers whose livery the hero knows all too well; they are troops of the Lord of Envy. Without hesitation (because he really doesn't care at that point what happens to him) he charges towards the soldiers after they crush one of the priest's skulls with a morningstar. He takes a few out but is quickly overwhelmed. Fearing that all hope is lost he prepares to die but then notices that the last priest left alive– the one who hates him– is now fighting back viciously. This allows the hero to rally and eventually the tide is turned and the soldiers are driven off. Helping the priest back to his his feet (for he was having trouble with the last soldier), he asks the priest if he's all right, and the priest grudgingly thanks him for his service, even though he was unable to save the other priests. The outspoken priest realizes that the hero fought to the best of his ability, and without the hero, the priest knows he would be dead. The priest asks the hero to finish escorting him to their original destination.

Game Notes for Chapter 2:

This chapter is a mix of both dialogue and live action. During the portions of the chapter that nothing significant is happening, the player will observe a thumbnail of the wagon traveling on the world map. Several breaks in the world map sequence would occur for various cutscenes essential to developing characters and furthering the story as well as keeping player interest. Several live action segments involving fighting off wolves take place as well. At the end of the chapter - after defeating the attacking soldiers - a cutscene depicts the priest congratulating the hero.
