Prologue
The hero, as a member of the Lords of the West, is leading the defense of the newly freed Dragonspur City. The General of the Lord of Envy is trying to retake it, and the evil army has besieged it. But despite the hero's efforts to end the siege, the General is just as good. As it is a siege, however, soon supplies and spirits start running low. The hero often makes rallying speeches and works to keep the defenders from deserting or surrenduring. He is involved in the thick of the fighting on several occasions, beating back a few orc and goblin charges personally.
During this time, though, he is privately concerned about the outcome. A cleric of Dekk summons him to the temple of Dekk in the city. There he tells him that the key he holds and has always considered a family heirloom is more than that. The cleric doesn't explain the key's exact importance but tells him that if certain creatures of evil were to get a hold of the key, all that is good in the World of Farland would be lost. After accepting a small ceremony (in which the hero unwittingly realizes that the key is now bonded to him and that only he can USE it or pass ownership to another), the cleric starts to teach him the entire passage of words to accept ownership… but before he can, men cry in alarm, for the General has made a great breach.
Returning to the scene, the hero finds the fighting to be heavy. He tries to mount an effort to push back the defenders, but there are too many. Pushed beyond the walls, he watches in horror as so many men are butchered. Remembering the key, he flees to keep it out of the General's grasp. The hero returns to the cleric to find out the rest of the words for the “Passage of the Ownership" -ritual, but he finds the cleric mysteriously murdered. (Later he learns that although the General was defeated, he was personally blamed for the temporary loss of Dragonspur by many who were his friends and whom he commanded.)
Game Notes for Prologue:
The player will control the hero in the battles during the siege. When he gets the summons from the cleric, the player will direct the hero to the temple, where he encounters a cut scene, then the player will direct the hero back to the wall after he hears the warning. There the player will control the hero during the fighting, as the battle is slowly lost. The end of the prologue is a cut scene. Prologue is supposed to work as an intro to the game world, storyline and game mechanics. After prologue the player should be aware of all the features of KoN
